Uncaged Heart Family Choir

Who?

Families of all ages, abilities, genders, and ethnicities are invited to join our beautiful singing circle! Uncaged Heart Family Choir is a collaboration between Crystal McDougall-Purdy (owner of Wild Heart Music) and Elizabeth Erickson (owner of Uncaged Musicians and KnightLizard Music). Crystal draws upon decades of solo and choral vocal training to select the perfect repertoire for our varied level ensemble and leads the choir in warmups and songs. Elizabeth uses her extensive music pedagogical background to lead musicianship-building exercises and activities and serves as overall coordinator.

What?

An informal, fun-loving choir! Much of the time we sing while sitting and standing in a circle. We do activities in between songs to work on music skills such as pitch, rhythm, and phrasing in the way humans learn them best -- though movement. Small kid disturbances are expected! If the disturbance becomes large or prolonged we ask that you guide your child off to the side (there are walking paths handy with shade) and return when ready. No judgement; we have all been the one with the noisy kid!

When?

Sunday mornings at 10am, starting September 15th, 2019.

Uncaged Heart Family Choir meets on a weekly basis and participants are encouraged to attend as often as their schedules allow for maximum enjoyment and retention of the songs we sing and the music skills we learn.

We participate in the Uncaged Musicians Winter Solstice Caroling and May Story Soirée and plan to add additional performance opportunities as we go. All performances will be casual and completely optional.

Where?

Outdoors at A Place to Play park in northwest Santa Rosa whenever weather permits! Meet us at the location indicated on the map below (just past the playground and pond near the northwest corner of the park under two oak trees; look for a bright blue Kia Soul with a white roof). There is ample parking and shade! *Bring a blanket or chairs -- oak leaves are spiky.*

Indoor winter location TBD based on group size.

Why?

Music is fundamental to humanity. We want to make music available to all, especially those who aren't able to join a standard choir for reasons such as financial hardship, age, insecurity about ability, or wanting more time together as a family. Music is healing and rejuvenating. Parenting is tough; being a child is tough. Singing opens the heart, refreshes the spirit, and builds bridges between us! Music is hope. In a world of uncertainty and imperfection, hope is what sees us through.
